Comprendre le crédit d'impôt pour travailleurs indépendants (SETC)
En mars 2020, la loi Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) a été promulguée pour soutenir les entreprises en leur permettant d’offrir des congés de maladie payés et des prestations de chômage en raison de la COVID-19. Au départ, la FFCRA ciblait les employeurs avec des salariés W-2 afin de les aider à surmonter les difficultés économiques engendrées par la pandémie. En décembre 2020, le Congrès a adopté la loi Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES), élargissant ainsi la portée de la FFCRA. Cet élargissement inclut désormais les travailleurs indépendants, les freelances, les entrepreneurs et les travailleurs de l’économie collaborative. En conséquence, ces groupes sont éligibles à des crédits d’impôt pour compenser les pertes de revenus dues à la COVID-19. Ces crédits d’impôt sont devenus connus sous le nom de Crédit d’impôt pour travailleurs indépendants ou « SETC ».
Contrairement au Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), la FFCRA n’est pas un prêt, mais un crédit d’impôt rétroactif pour vos impôts sur le revenu de 2020 ou 2021. Ce crédit réduira soit le montant que vous devez actuellement à l’IRS, soit vous sera envoyé directement sous forme de chèque ou de dépôt ACH, en fonction de votre situation fiscale. Tous les crédits FFCRA versés directement peuvent être utilisés comme bon vous semble et ne nécessitent aucun remboursement.
